July 20 - International Day of the Friend
The Day of the Friend is of Argentine origin. It was created by
Professor Dr. Enrique Febbraro, who first conceived the idea of dedicating
a special day to friendship back during the end of the Second World War, in 1945. For sure Febbraro thought then that the world
was ready for such a day, after having suffered so much tragedy and pain with such a war. In addition, the creation of the
Organization of the United Nations (UN) seemed to give credibility to an emerging reality that embraced peace and human harmony.
Regrettably, Febbraro had to discard the idea because "both events were linked one way or another to the continuation of warfare."
It was years later, precisely on July 20, 1969, that Febbraro no longer hesitated in working for the worldwide establishment
of the Day of the Friend, upon hearing, together with millions of other people, glued to their television sets and radios, that the
race for the conquest of space would come in a few months to its culmination, with the landing of a man on the terrestrial moon,
and that such event was "a symbol of friendship towards humanity and the universe".
As it was well stated by Veronica Martinez in her
article
published about Dr. Enrique Febbraro and this holiday in La Palma Interactivo.com:
Emminent professor of psychology, philosophy and ethics, in addition to being an odontological doctor and musician, nominated twice by the Nobel
Peace Prize, Febbraro had the great dream of celebrating both his own friends and those of everybody since, for him, true friendship is a treasure
of incalculable value.
With the goal of going beyond the frontiers of the planet and approaching another celestial body, the moon, man imposed the
need - and even responsibility - to also approach other men and women of all races, creeds and ideologies.
The mere ability to be able to see the earth from space made him ponder the brotherhood of all human beings,
and the importance of this universal connection, thus ending all divisions and wars.
With this contemplation, man could become aware that the union with his kin would help him to achieve
more quickly and efficiently his objectives. The conquest of the moon had not only achieved the attention
but also the interest of all human beings on the earth.
Because of this, Enrique Febbraro felt inspired and motivated to honor this effort of all of humanity, with the celebration
of the very same day of the lunar landing as the Day of the Friend.
With the passing of time, today this date is celebrated throughout all of Argentina and several countries in Latin America. According to
some sources, 100 countries currently celebrate this special day.
Our goal in publishing this page today, is to help promote this holiday, the International Day of the Friend, through and with
the power of the love and music of Ginamarķa.
We leave you with a lengthy fragment of the beautiful song
Me Robaron La Luna,
by Mariano Mores and Rodolfo Manuel Taboada, sung by Ginamaria.
